Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture is becoming more and more popular in the UK as we read in the media news of various Hollywood stars having Cosmetic Acupuncture done.

Cosmetic Acupuncture involves having very fine, delicate, hair-like needles inserted by a trained professional into certain acupuncture points on the face. These needles, when manipulated, encourage blood and energy to flow which nourishes and energizes the face. Because the needles, when inserted, activate the production of collagen and elastin, the wrinkles and fine lines on the face are smoothed out, bags under the eyes are reduced, sagging and puffiness are reduced, drooping eyelids are lifted and muscles are toned and lifted. The jaw-line is enhanced and large pores are closed. Even small acne scars can be softened and filled in. It is recommended to have the full 12 treatments in order to gain all these results but a healthy radiance can be achieved by even just one treatment. An added side affect to having Cosmetic Acupuncture is that it is also beneficial to the rest of the body.

As these treatments involve needling in the face, it is recommended that they are done by a professional who has been trained in the special techniques of Cosmetic Acupuncture.

Glenda (Leni) Neil BSc(Hons)Ac. Lic.Ac. MBAcC Cosmetic Acupuncturist

I am Canadian and after 20 years working in the health care field in Canada I decided to become an acupuncturist. I moved to England to study for three and a half years to obtain my licence and my BSc(Hons) degree in acupuncture. I trained at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading which is affiliated with Kingston University. I have been trained in both styles of acupuncture, namely Traditional or TCM Acupuncture and Five Element Acupuncture. I am a full member of the British Acupuncture Council (MBAcC). I have also been trained in Cosmetic Acupuncture and am in the process of becoming a Cosmetic Acupuncture Practitioner Member of the Acupuncture Society (MAcSCA). In September of this year I will be starting a 3 year course in Chinese Herbal Medicine leading to my MSc in Chinese Herbal Medicine.

I will be working at the Hogarth Clinic as a Cosmetic Acupuncturist. When you attend your initial appointment with me, I will first ensure that your body, mind and spirit are in balance and to that end, I will do a Traditional Diagnosis. This will entail answering questions about your health. I shall also be checking your pulse and tongue to gain additional information about your health. Then I will do a basic cosmetic treatment so that you can become accustomed to the needling. More treatments with attention to problem areas will be done in your follow-up appointments. Allergies to facial products are also taken into account as a brief massage with oil is done after each treatment. It is recommended that you have between 8 to 12 weekly treatments, however it depends on your age and whether you smoke or drink alcohol. Results are usually noticeable after the 5th or 6th treatment although your face will look more radiant even after the first treatment. The initial appointment can last up to 2 hours and the follow-up appointments are usually 1 ½ hours. The cost of the initial treatment is £120 and follow-up treatments are £90 each.
