Pilates**

Member type: Adult

Instructor: Shanti Bhoola-Evans

Location: Studio 2

Level: General

This class aims to improve your posture by focusing on pelvic and scapula strength and stability which in turn will help with the alignment of the spine.   The class is conducted at a controlled pace with attention to the breath along with the movement.    Precisions and flow are key elements of this class.

The class starts with preparatory “pre-Pilates” movements and progresses to some of the general level classical Pilates mat work exercises.  In 2008 I was introduced to Pilates and I became intrigued by the profound rehabilitative effects this discipline has on many issues within the body, from rotator cuff injuries and debilitating back problems to post-operative breast cancer rehabilitation.

I love Pilates as a form of exercise as well as a remedial tool to aid recovery from illness and injury. I am passionate about helping people understand why they are doing an exercise and how it will help improve their posture and their health.

Learning about our bodies and movement is fascinating in a healthy body, but we can learn so much more from a body that is in need of balance, strengthening and rehabilitation.
