10 TIPS ON HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE HOGARTH 24H SPINATHON

As a seasoned Hogarth Spinathon-er, Health & Fitness Manager, Vojin offers his top tips on how to survive The Hogarth's legendary 24 hour fitness charity event!

Spinathons are a big part of Hogarth tradition and as this is the fourth time we are hosting one we have learned lessons along the way. Whether you are part of a team and doing multiple stints through the 24 hours or coming along to a single class, you will be part of a magnificent event. Here are ten tips to get you through it:

1/ Try to do a spin class before, if you are not a regular spinner just so you get a taste of what is in store it is useful to pop on a bike beforehand.

2/ Follow the instructor but keep in mind if you have more classes ahead of you to just save some energy.

3/ Keep hydrated, during the class and as part of prep and recovery between classes.

4/ Make sure you load up on carbs at least a couple of hours before you jump on a saddle.

5/ Get some sleep! Depending on how long you have between your classes try and get some kip in. Look out for other spinners crashed out around the club in the night!

6/ Do not consume alcohol prior to riding, a lesson some of us learnt the hard way in previous Spinathons!

7/ Leg strength work in the gym now will help condition you for the big day.

8/ Get some padded shorts for the bike, if you are not a seasoned cyclist who has worn in their saddle soreness, you will not regret a bit of extra comfort!

9/ Support your instructors who have kindly volunteered to fill out the schedule, they will get you through it but let’s help them too. It is, ahem, a cycle of encouragement.

10/ Have fun! It really is a special day when the Hogarth community gets together for a great cause. Whether it is during the day or at 3am the atmosphere and camaraderie is always fantastic as we all get through it together!
