Hatha Yoga**

Member type: Adult

Instructor: Tallulah

Location: Studio 2

Level: General

A traditional 'Hatha' Yoga class is designed to increase mental and physical awareness.

It integrates Tantric philosophy, mantra (chanting), mudra (hand gestures), myth (ancient stories), meditation and pranayama (breathing techniques). This is a challenging class that is suitable for all levels. Each class is different and the sequence depends on the theme and physical focus of the day.

This class is founded on the balancing principles of traditional Hatha Yoga. It begins with a chance to settle and draw the attention inwards. Movement is introduced gradually, using the sensations of the breath and body to anchor awareness in the here-and-now. Then in preparation for the more challenging work, mindful movements or co-ordinating movement with breath – vynassa to release tension and joints.

The posture work develops strength and flexibility and it is often combined with more dynamic flowing sequences that promote fitness and vitality. This is generally followed by a period of winding down and preparation for relaxation. This may include restorative work, pranayama – breath practices and relaxation techniques.

*This class is bookable online and class numbers are capped to 14 in Phase 1 of reopening.
