Hogarth Tennis Tournament
Massive congratulations to everyone who took part in this year's Tournament culminating in the finals last Sunday. Here's a summary of events.
10.00hrs, MIXED DOUBLES
Richard Lintern & Alice Shimmin VS Otto Grunlow & Susan Simnett
Richard and Alice dominated the match. They went out fast with some hard hitting serves and dropped only 2 games. 6-1, 6-1.
11.30hrs, LADIES SINGLES
Alice Shimmin VS Emily Theyer
Alice got off to a flying start stealing the first set 6-0, Emily then began to relax and broke Aliceâs serve. It was all square at 5-5 and looked like it would go to three sets. Alice thought otherwise and turned up the gas taking the 2nd set 7-5 and the match.
13.00hrs, MENâS SINGLES
Jonathan Biddell VS Richard Lintern
Richard was just waaay too strong. First set 6-0, 2nd 6-1. Alice kindly marked this match so that Ben could have a break and some food.
14.30hrs, LADIES DOUBLES
Nicola Leftwich & Wiebke Tuechsen VS Charlotte Mullarkey & Martine Biddle
Charlotte and Martine took the first set 6-1 and it looked set for another quick 2-0 win. They went 5-2 up in the 2nd set and then Wiebke and Nicola started clawing back. It got to 5-4 and nerves were beginning to show, both sides making unforced errors. Charlotte and Martine suddenly found form again and took the next game to win 6-1, 6-4.
16.00hrs, MENâS DOUBLES
Jonathan Biddell & Otto Grunlow VS Christopher & Nicholas Rebuffa
This was another 1 sided match with Jonathan and Otto winning 6-1, 6-0.
Well done to everyone involved and for getting all matches played on time.
Thanks also to Wiebke who made a load of cakes and is taking donations for The Dawn Hastings Foundation. She does this every year, what a star. Wiebke raised £44.46.
