Instructor Spotlight: Pilar

New to our Spring 2025 Timetable, we're delighted to welcome Pilar to our Pilates team at The Hogarth!

MEET PILAR

A longtime Hogarth member, Pilar discovered Pilates nearly two decades ago, during a dance lesson, as the teacher explained a warm-up exercise.

"Engage your deep abdominals when doing this sit-up rather than using your entire body. Focus on finding and contracting the right muscles. By the way, this technique comes from Pilates."

Pilar liked the sound of that. Already a member of The Hogarth, she thought “They offer Pilates at the club. I’ll give it a try.” Little did she know that her first Pilates session would lead to almost twenty years of dedication to the practice.

Curious about the methodology behind Pilates and why teachers taught it the way they did, Pilar eventually took the Level 3 Mat Pilates qualification at the London Pilates Academy. Drawing on her broad background in teaching and training in other areas, she couldn't imagine a better place to teach Pilates than The Hogarth Club - where she can build on the work of the talented instructors she’s learned from.

What Pilar values most about Pilates are its principles of Flow and Control, and the modifications and adaptations that makes it accessible to practitioners of all levels. She's also discovered that strengthening her breathing muscles benefits her vocal support. Pilar's teaching approach draws on her experience in teaching physical theatre and her natural gift for instruction.

Beyond teaching Pilates, Pilar spends most of her time writing and continues to work as a voice-over artist in London, working mainly for the Spanish market, but occasionally in English - you might recognise her as the voice of Xuli in the cartoon "Go Jetters"!
