The Hogarth Tennis Finals
Whilst the British Davis Cup team were stuck indoors creating history on Sunday, The Hogarth's Tennis Finals were taking place outdoors in the Chiswick sunshine. With the Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles, plus the Mixed Doubles to be decided, there were some sublime performances and exciting matches.
Emily Theyer & Richard Lintern were the stand-out performers of the day, and came face to face in the Mixed Doubles, having both already triumphed, without dropping a set in their earlier Singles & Doubles matches respectively. Something would have to give and not surprisingly it was very close with Richard and Martine Biddle taking the first set 6-4. Emily and her partner, Andrew Monk fought back by winning a tightly contested second by the same score to set up a deciding set which they went on to finally edge 6-3.
The other champions on the day were Nicola Leftwich, who partnered Emily in the Women's Doubles, beating Lyndsay Halper & Susan Simnett in two sets, and Tony Twiss partnering Richard to a 2 set victory over Andrew and Alex Monk. Amanda Fassone and Connor Burrowes were Runners-Up in the Women's and Men's Singles respectively.
