The Hogarth Spine-a-thon 2013 - 18 to 19 October

This event has now concluded.
Starts: 18 October 2013 at 18:00
Ends: 19 October 2013 at 18:00

The Hogarth 24 hour Charity Spinathon is back for 2013 but we've called it the Spine-a-thon for 2013!

This event will now be on Friday 18 October and will finish at 6pm on Saturday 19 October. First and foremost, this event aims to be full of fun whilst raising funds for the best of causes. This year we will be raising funds for a very special Hogarth member, Russ Dawkins, who as a super fit 40 something year old, had an horrific accident back in June and has just been moved to Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Here's Russ' extraordinary BLOG

There will be a party on the Friday Night during the Spine-a-thon celebrating Russ's survival and his extraordinary ability to meet the challenges he has been facing! More on Russ and our objective of an active future over the coming weeks… On the Saturday during the day and through the evening the Club will be co-hosting OXJAM!

To register a team or join a team headed by Hogarth staff, please come and speak to a member of the gym team or one of the duty managers. Look out for updates. For those of you who don’t know, in our last two Spinathons we managed to raise over £15,000!

Here's some pictures of The Hogarth Spinathon 2011 event.

So how can you get involved and how does it work?

• You may enter as a team OR choose to do a single class or even multiple classes over the 24 hour period.

• Captains have been nominated throughout the club and will be on the hunt for team members.

Here’s how the ’team’ set up works:

• Teams can have 2 – 6 members and the team must cycle for 24hrs in total. Obviously, if you’re looking for a challenge then the fewer team members you have the more cycling you will do. For example, if you have 2 members in a team then each person will be cycling for 12 hours each and if you have 6 members in a team then each person will be cycling for 4 hours each. The team decides how to make up its hours and can either get them all done at once or stagger them over the 24 hour period. The minimum sponsorship for a team entry is £100.

• For those of you who would like to participate but do not want to be in a team, you can still take part in this event. You may book in for single or multiple classes, as there will be a number of bikes available for rental for a single hour or multiple hours. To rent a bike it will cost £10 per hour. These bikes will need to be booked in advance at the Gym reception. The 24 hour timetable of Spinning instructors will be available soon and will allow you to see who is teaching when. This may or may not influence your class selection!

My aim is to raise as much money as we possibly can whilst having loads and loads of fun! Sponsorship forms will be available from the Gym and everyone must take one away and hopefully fill it up for a jolly good cause. If you have any questions then please speak to a team captain (details will be put on the gym notice board) or a member of the Gym team.
