Help The Hogarth Fundraise for LBCUK

We were very pleased to hear from Hogarth member and LBCUK volunteer, Emma Amos about the amazing Charity she is a part of - Lobular Breast Cancer UK. Emma was diagnosed with the very unique disease in 2018 and shared her frustrations online, with 7 other ladies all with a diagnosis, about the lack of information and support for Lobular Breast Cancer.

These incredible ladies went on to launch LBCUK and are currently on a multi-day trek challange in the Scottish Highlands; 'Walking Our Mammaries' to raise awareness and funds for research. Read on to find out more and how you can support at The Hogarth on the weekend of Saturday 21st May 2022!

What is Lobular Breast Cancer?

LBC is an under-studied and misunderstood disease that is difficult to diagnose and is often identified at a very late stage. 22 people are diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer everday, and it makes up 15% of all diagnosed breast cancers. LBC rarely forms a lump, making it hard to see on scans so it is often diagnosed at a late stage, requiring more extensive treatment or a terminal diagnosis. It is a disease that needs better research and treatment, LBCUK are passionate about making sure every one with a diagnosis gets to live.

About the charity: LBCUK

The charity launched in September 2021 and is run by volunteers who have all had a Lobular Breast Cancer diagnosis.

"Having met an amazing group of women online all with a lobular diagnosis and a shared frustration with the lack of information and support, we decided to set up a charity dedicated solely to supporting those with a diagnosis of lobular breast cancer." - Emma Amos, Hogarth member and member of the LBCUK Charity.

LBCUK are the only charity in the UK that are solely committed to supporting people affected by Lobular Breast Cancer. They provide information about this little known disease, work to change treatment guidelines so that treatments specifically target Lobular and collaborate on research to improve outcomes for everyone affected by this unique disease.

The fundraising event: Walking Our Mammaries

LBCUK walking our mammaries fundraiser

These ladies are embarking on a multi-day mountain challenge in the Scottish Highlands called ‘Walking our Mammaries’ (where the mountains are named after breasts!) to raise awareness and funds for the work of LBCUK.

LBCUK will be encouraging everyone via their sponsors and networking channels to join in on their own ‘Mammary Mountain challenge’ virtually on the last day of the challenge - Saturday 21st May 2022.

How are The Hogarth Club supporting?

From Saturday 21st May until Monday 23rd May, we will have one of our treadmills at Reception on an incline to commence our own Hogarth 'Mammary Mountain challenge' throughout the weekend! There will be a bucket for cash donations or a poster with a QR code to donate online to LBCUK. Play your part in raising awareness and funds for LBCUK and to support these amazing women!
