The Hogarth 500 Review

When we started conjuring up the Hogarth 500 we considered that it might be slightly affected by another lockdown. We did not realise how prophetic it would be with almost the whole event happening with the gym closed. What we didn’t quite prepare for was the truly tremendous response from all those taking part!

Teams of six, five, four, three, two and even one all brushed off the gym closure as a minor inconvenience and got on their bikes and/or into their walking/running shoes.

2020 November is certainly one to remember. With flights limited, the radar above London was still being lit up by exercise screenshots being pinged across to their captains. Seeing the leaderboard being filled up as those miles were being hunted was a beautiful achievement to behold.

The pandemic this year has shone a light on the importance of working out not just physically but mentally too. Sport In Mind is a wonderful charity and perfect organisation to raise for on our behalf. Thank you so much for everyone’s kind donations, we have raised over £3000 for a fab cause. The funds raised will go on to help many others addressing their mental health through sport. Everyone taking part got to experience the benefits first from keeping their activity going.

horton and garton Hogarth 500 teamA massive thank you to Horton and Garton who have been more than just sponsors, they have been partners in crime during this and have made the event a bigger success with their Home and Away teams fighting it out for their in house bragging rights. Truly brilliant work as they worked flat out. Like other teams it kept everyone connected and ensuring groups were far from detached.

The first teams to cross the finish line managed to do it before lockdown! Three squads finished within hours of each other on the 4th November. It was Captain Goran and his Gym Lane that fizzed to victory in the team event and a meal each at The Airedale. Congratulations! Terry’s TRTC were second and the podium was completed with Joe and his Explosive Runs.

What has really made this event special is that crossing the finish line was not the end and many teams continued seeing how far they could get. We know of at least one team in Garth Vaders who have surpassed 2000 miles!

Whilst the final donations come in we will see who won the most raised by an individual category and a month’s membership. Likewise we are looking for all the submissions for most miles covered walking, running and cycling through the month. A 30 minute massage for each awaits. Find updated winners further below.

The competitive and communal spirit for the H500 really flipped the barriers of social distancing on its head. It made sure to keep us socialising across emails or whatsapp groups and the distancing was highlighted in all those screenshots and spreadsheets.

broken shoe Hogarth 500Thank you to all the captains for marshalling their troops. From the shoes walked beyond breaking point by Should Try Harder to the family effort from The Eagles to the one man mileage machine that is Forthuber XL. 5 stars to everyone!

Inspiring efforts all round!

When it is permitted we would like to hold a celebration at The Airedale. Until then keep it going everyone. The next challenge will be around the corner.
