SIVANANDA YOGA
A slow, gentle and thorough form, combining postures, breathing, dietary restrictions, chanting, scriptural study, and meditation. It's a more traditional type of yoga and is based upon 5 core principles; proper exercise, proper breathing, proper relaxation, proper diet (Vegetarian) and positive thinking with meditation, aiming to promote physical and mental well-being.
In Sivananda, you work on mastering 12 basic poses; headstand, shoulderstand, plow, fish, seated forward bend, cobra, locust, bow, seated spinal twist, crow, standing forward bend, and triangle.
Although it's a gentle form of yoga, people with lower back problems should be wary of taking up Sivananda, and should seek professional advice before taking it up. We believe, here at The Hogarth Health Club, Chiswick, Iyengar would be a better start point due to the closer focus on correct alignment. please check the timetable section for times of Iyengar classes.
