YOGA

The Hogarth offers a range of Yoga practices and styles to suit all abilities and complement every mood.

Hatha Yoga

A traditional 'Hatha' Yoga class is designed to increase mental and physical awareness. It integrates Tantric philosophy, mantra (chanting), mudra (hand gestures), myth (ancient stories), meditation and pranayama (breathing techniques). This is a challenging class that is suitable for all levels. Each class is different and the sequence depends on the theme and physical focus of the day.

Iyenga Yoga

Accessible to all ages and abilities, the emphasis is on precision and alignment, so the poses are explored in greater detail, encouraging a deeper understanding and awareness.  Classes are sequenced to be progressive and to develop and improve strength, flexibility, stamina, concentration and relaxation so each week there will be a focus on the different groups of poses to emphasise these various aspects, making each class different.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Vinyasa Flow is a style in which movements are synchronized with the breath. It is a lively flow with pace and grace in equal measures. Explore both your inner dancer and your inner warrior. Expect to flex, stretch and work your body in this well round practice.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga is a slower form of yoga that allows you to go deeper into the asana's poses to open the body and calm the nervous system. Through the breath you can go deeper into the stretches and bring the mind and body into balance.
The slow and deliberatre movements helps to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the "rest and digest" response, which helps to reduce stress, promotate relaxation, and regulate the body.

Dynamic Yoga

Enjoy a rigorous but accessible sequence that will challenge and work your body and mind. Classes begin with a gentle warm-up, cultivating breath and body awareness and builds into more energetic sequences synchronising breath and movement developing strength, stamina and flexibility.
Emphasis is on moving with self-awareness and self-acceptance, and blending the energies of body, mind, and spirit. This moderate/advanced class is best suited for those who are physically active and/or have yoga experience and are free from current physical challenges.

Yin Yoga

Yin is a quiet, grounded practice where you hold the poses for long periods of time (typically 2-6 minutes).  The idea is to release the deeper, denser connective tissues and fascia, tendons, ligaments and joint capsules.  These more rigid tissues need continuous pressure to slowly lengthen and open.  Yin yoga is both profoundly relaxing and re-energising.  It stimulates vital energy to flow through the meridians which are located within the fascial tissue.

Yoga Barre

Barre classes are really effective in shaping the body and keeping the muscles long and lean. Barre was originally based on the Lotte Berk Method that combined elements of Dance,Yoga and Pilates.
It is a system that works with small precise muscle movements and squeezes. The movements are repeated frequently to challenge the muscles and sculpt the body.
Exercises are performed at the barre and on the floor. The majority of the class is performed using your own body weight but some sections use hand weights and straps. The class is low impact and suitable for most people and levels.

Yoga Basics

A slower alignment-based Hatha yoga class focusing each week on a different physical aspect of yoga. Props like belts, brick blocks and blankets are used regularly to assist an optimum flow of breath and energy. Precise alignment cues and therapeutic explanations are given. Great if you come back from a longer break, if you are new to yoga, if you return after injury or if you just fancy a more accessible yoga sequence.

Intermediate Yoga

A strong alignment-based Hatha Yoga flow class focusing each week on a different physical and energetic aspect of Yoga. Depending on the theme of the week we incorporate Pranayama (breathing techniques), Chakras (energy work), Mantra (chant), Mudra (hand gestures), or Meditation. Expect inversions and sweat before deep relaxation! Ideal for regular practitioners who fancy a little extra challenge.
